We are very pleased to announce that Sue Hillier has secured us a new PPP. This is at Kyre Equestrian near Tenbury Wells. We are hoping to organise a special weekend there later on in the year to offically 'christen' our new ride, but if you wish to ride there beforehand please contact Tom or Anne Durston-Smith on 01885 410233 or 07891 928412.
Please visit their website as they also hold a variety of events.
Sue and some friends recently went for a short holiday there. Here is her account of what sounds like a fabulous weekend away!
On Friday evening 6th of May I had all the car packed and ready to go. Saturday morning 7th May, not forgetting my horse Basil and all his tack, we were off to Kyre E C for a weekend of riding accompanied by Theresa, Barbara, Julie, Penny, Louisa and Alison.
We went out in two groups Theresa, Barbara, Julie went out on a shorter ride. While Penny, Louisa, Alison and myself went out for a two hour ride. We were so lucky with the weather, overcast with clouds and showers and windy. It was so lovely all bridle paths rolling grassy hills, with a soft breeze staying dry. We did have a little shower of rain just as we went undercover at a farm which soon past before we came out the other side and was sunny again. We went up the pigeon house ride with reasonable gates and yes, the bridle path does go straight through the cow shed. (that’s where we took shelter with the small shower of rain) we got back to our host’s place. All the horse’s were washed down and put into fields or stables.
In the evening we all met up to have a bbq in the lambing shed, we were joined by Kev, Heather and Derek so eleven of us for John to cook for with his pan. (what would we do without him?!) plus Penny was working on another cooker so we all had lots of lovely food. Chicken, burgers, sausages etc followed by very nice puddings supplied by Louisa and Heather. Thank you to all who supplied chairs.
On Saturday 8th May, after a very good nights sleep, with yummy cooked breakfast, we went on a gentle ride which took around four hours. We were still the nifty fifty four, the other three girls Theresa, Julie and Barbara were going home today. Our ride took us around by Sutton Mill, the Fulham’s, Norgove, Cheveridge Oxford, Bannals farm, the Grove and back via pigeon house. The weather was perfect for us today gates and bridges were very easy to access. The whole day was very nice finished off by an evening of dining at “The Ship Inn” Tenbury Well very nice food and menu. So glad I came.
On Sunday 9th May, after a second sound and peaceful sleep, we checked our horse’s and had breakfast full English with tea or coffee, paid our fees
The weather was a bit rainy this morning so we took our water proofs and bungee ties, great for rolling up our coats across the front of the saddle. It turned out sunny along the way so they came in handy. Yet another fantastic day of riding over beautiful country side. No traffic - just tracks and green grassy bridle ways. We got back around two hours later. All horses sponged off and put away into lorries and trailers. Before leaving we met in Penny’s lorry for teas and cake’s and buns chocolate, what a way to finish our weekend. Then a convoy home.WITH A BIG SMILEY FACE
Lower House Farm Sutton is a lovely historic place to stay with wooden floors old beams and lots of pictures and books, beautiful gardens with plenty of places to sit out. Anne & Tom Durston Smith are delightful people to meet, very friendly they made our stay most enjoyable
A big thank you to Penny for map reading, and to all the others for your great company. Thank you.
