wbra Christmas Ride
The wbra Christmas Ride was held on 6th December, and with a great turnout the day was going to be a good one!
Against all odds, ie weather which had been awful up until the day of the ride and had threatened us to cancel the whole event. I walked some of the bridleway routes a few days before and although wet underfoot it was not deep mud so my feeling was safe to go ahead unless bad weather provailed on the day. After seeing to my own horses at home Shawn and I set off to check gates and put signs out and finally deliver the food and mulled wine to the start/finish point.
We were soon joined by Lesley Welch who took over organising the refreshments whilst I sorted out parking and welcoming riders who had started to arrive. However I had not forseen exactly how many riders we would have and Lesley thought we might not have enough mince pies and wine, so an SOS call to Alison Partridge and fresh stocks were on their way..
We also need to give a big thank you to Sabrina De lisle who had very kindly let us use her facilities to park and without her help we would not have been able to run the event.
In total approx 15 riders took part and apart from high winds the rain stayed away and occasionally the sun shone through too.
The riders had to find answers to clues and work out criptic directions to find their way around the 7 mile route which took about 2 hrs.. we did have a few who mad minor mistakes in direction but on the whole all returned safely to the refreshments put on by Lesley and Claire Haslam who had also braved the cold to come out and help.
Anyone for Coffee? Claire Haslam & Lesley Welch have it all in hand
